Every couple of years, like clockwork, there’s an actor or actress who steps out of the shadows of the credits and dominates every single award show red carpet. This year, that starlet was Viola Davis.

Viola was acclaimed for her lead role in the Oscar nominated film, The Help, but don’t be fooled, the 46-year-old actress is no newcomer to Hollywood.

After starring as Aibileen Clark in The Help, Viola skyrocketed to new heights and cleaned house at every awards show this season. Predicting her fame, a who’s who of designers were dying to dress the South Carolina native and she quickly became a person to watch on the red carpet. Viola Davis is to the film industry what Adele is to music.

Viola is no breakout star; she has been grinding from the bottom since her days on television shows such as NYPD Blue.

Viola may have not taken home the Oscar last night for Best Actress in a lead role, but one thing she has won over is the respect of almost every single style critic in America.

Last night’s flawless emerald Vera Wang gown complimented with a natural close-cropped haircut was all the proof we needed that in the style world, Viola has arrived.

In honor of Viola’s bold new red carpet confidence, we’ve decided to take a look at her evolution in red carpet style.
