Erinn Phelan, a young Ivy-league graduate moves to NY to live her dreams, and takes a job working for Mayor Mike Bloomberg as a staffer.  On Monday afternoon, in New York City, her dreams quickly faded, as she was crossing the street with her friend, her ex-roommate at Brown University, Alma Guerrero, 23, and a car came screaming through the Brooklyn Street.

As the car approached the two young ladies, Erinn pushed her friend out of the way, but she was not so lucky — she was struck head on and is now in the hospital, brain dead, in a coma.  Her heroic act saved her friend’s life, but has sadly put her life at the death’s doorstep.

Reached at his Texas home, Guerrero’s father, Fidel, told The New York Post that his daughter said her friend ‘pushed her out of the way.’  Alma, he said, was ‘doing okay.’

The person who hit Erinn and Alma took off and an abandoned green Acura has been found, but the person driving it has not.

Mayor Mike Bloomberg urged anyone with information on the hit and run to call 311.

‘When I spoke to Erinn’s parents, I told them that, as a father, I can’t begin to imagine what they are going through, but all of our prayers are with their dedicated and idealistic young daughter, who’s helping New York City answer President Obama’s historic call to service,’ the mayor said in a statement.
