The music industry has sure had its ups and downs during the economic downturn, when asked about the future of record labels Jay-Z explains less is more.

According to the rapper who served as President/CEO of Def Jam records and is currently owner of Roc Nation, record companies need to become more streamline when it comes to new acts.

‘People have to be smarter about how they A and R what they put out. Record companies need to catch up to that, someone needs to send them a memo.’

Jay-z goes on to prove his point by stating ‘I remember the first year I was at Def Jam we put out 56 artist. There’s not 56 great artist in the world. and this is one company…one company operating for like, 80 artist in a year. That’s just too many. Although he is currently on ‘The Blue Print 3’ tour Jay-Z  remains in the business state of mind.
