Back in 2000, Sophie Dahl’s famous ad for Yves Saint Laurent Opium perfume made headlines!
This year, the infamous image is making headlines again. The controversial YSL ad has been named the 8th most-complained-about advertisement according to the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority).
The ASA stated, “We agreed with public complaints that a poster ad for Opium perfume featuring a naked Sophie Dahl was sexually suggestive and, in an untargeted medium, likely to cause serious or widespread offence.”
The ad, which features plus size model Dahl lying naked on her back, received 948 complaints. Apparently the public didn’t think it was appropriate to see a completely new woman in an ad. My, how things have changed!
