A YouTube upload asserting it contains new footage from the aftermath of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi‘s violent death last October has surfaced. The video provides a clearer view of the late dictator’s bloodied body.

STORY: Muammar Gaddafi’s Son, Al-Saadi Gaddafi Surrenders

Activist Sami al-Hamwi (@HamaEcho) tweeted a link to the video, remarking that someone should show the footage to Syrian president Bashar Assad as a warning of what happened to a fellow Middle East dictator.

Earlier footage from last year, posted shortly after Gaddafi’s death, showed him on his knees, seeming to still be alive. In the clearer footage below, Gaddafi’s shirtless body appears to be taken by a group of men in the back of a van.

The video contains graphic content. It is unclear why this footage was only released at this time, nine months after the fact.
