On September 25, Lupe drops his fourth solo album, Food and Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1. The next single off that album is called “Lamborghini Angels.” The single will release next week, but the controversial rapper is already sending out warnings about the song’s content:
The Muslim rapper said the song will be a determent to those who are “religiously sensitive.” This could get very interesting.
“Lamborghini Angels” won’t be the first time this year that the rapper’s singles caused a lot of controversy. Earlier this year, Lupe released his first single, “Around My Way [Freedom Ain’t Free],” which uses the same sample that Pete Rock & CL Smooth used on their iconic hit “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.).” The song’s producer, Pete Rock, took offense and he lashed out against Lupe, a move that started a back and forth between the two.
There’s no real beef, but they’re not quick to be friends, either. Lupe, talking to CNN, said:
“I’ll just wait this one out, see what happens,” Lupe said. “Let time reconcile this, time and distance. I still big him up. Shout to Pete Rock, shout to CL Smooth in everything I do because at the end of the day, it is his record.”
We’ll have to wait and see just how disturbing “Lamborghini Angels” really is. But one thing’s for sure, with a disclaimer like that, we WILL be listening!
