George Zimmerman’s defense attorney, Mark O’Mara held a press conference this afternoon to inform the media that although Judge Kenneth Lester is still the presiding judge in the case, they are sending an appeal for a new judge to the District Court.

STORY: Oh Word? “Stand Your Ground” Hearing Set In George Zimmerman Case

O’Mara took questions from the press about the “Stand Your Ground’ hearing he’s planning on behalf of his client.

On the “Stand Your Ground” hearing, O’Mara said:

“Stand Your Ground” is misleading: What this really is just a simple self-defense immunity…I think the facts suggest in this case that what probably happened was that my client was reacting to having his nose broken.”

As for Zimmerman’s donations, O’Mara said:

“Mr. Zimmerman’s defense fund continues to deplete: As we move forward we’re probably going to have to consider indigency.”

When asked about the “Stand Your Ground” law as it pertains to this case, O’Mara continued:

“I’m not sure this is a stand your ground case…but rather a “traditional self-defense” case.”

When asked about the F.B.I.’s involvement, O’Mara responded:

“The FBI’s investigation could become evidence in Zimmerman’s defense. Agents didn’t find any suggestion of racism.”

As for how Zimmerman is living:

“He’s living in fear…he really has to live as a hermit, unfortunately…He can’t work and I don’t think that he can be in public because there is a lot of hatred for him.”

Zimmerman’s defense website stated after the press conference that-

On July 13, the defense team filed a Verified Motion to Disqualify Trial Judge. Judge Lester responded on August 1 by issuing an Order Dismissing Defendant’s Verified Motion to Disqualify Trial Judge on the basis that it was legally insufficient. Today the defense team will file a Petition for Writ of Prohibition with the 5th District Court of Appeal.

Zimmerman has become an enemy of the state. Stay tuned as we continue to cover the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman case.
