Brandy is blowing up the charts with the new single “Put It Down” off her highly-anticipated album Two Eleven.
But, many don’t know how near and dear this project really is to her.

Recently, the 33-year-old singer told The Insider about the real meaning behind Two Eleven:
“It was the day I was born and it’s also the day I lost Whitney Houston. So that day just means so much to me. And, I just want to continue to live my life with purpose and make her proud. That’s my way of tributing her.”

The Grammy Award winner, who’s brother Ray J was Whitney’s last boyfriend, was also very close to the legendary singer. Brandy revealed Whitney’s last words to her before the icon’s sudden passing:
“Nobody can be you. Just be you. Don’t be afraid to be you.”
Becoming emotional, Brandy continued:
“When you lose someone and that’s one of the last things they say, you just want to continue to do the best you can do for yourself and be the greatest version of yourself.”
