Veronica Lighty, the wife of late hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty, finally broke her silence for the first time since news of her estranged husband’s death last Thursday.
It was previously reported that Lighty killed himself after a heated argument between the couple. Veronica told the NY Daily News that Chris was “too smart” and loved his six children too much to do that.
“My husband was too smart of a man. He was a genius. No smart man is going to leave his children for fighting with his wife. That makes absolutely no sense. We had a passionate relationship. We fought all the time.”

Lighty shot himself behind the couple’s home in the Riverdale section of the Bronx last Thursday morning. Reports suggested Lighty owed $5 million to the IRS and was heartbroken over his wife filing for divorce. Mrs. Lighty was quoted saying:
“I had filed for divorce last year, but retracted it,” two days before Father’s Day, she said. “That was my gift to him.”
She said that Chris had a lot of weight and stress on his shoulders, but maintained that in no way were they $5 million in debt.
Chris Lighty Cause Of Death Revealed
The couple had been married for 10 years.
“My husband was obsessed and adored me,” she said. “He was one of the most beautiful people that I have ever met in my life.
“Let him die proud, at peace because that’s what he needed and that’s what he wanted,” she added. “He just wanted peace and he wanted to relieve all that stress.”
Chirs Lighty’s clients included Diggy Simmons and 50 Cent, who were both devastated by the news of the legend’s death. May he rest in peace.
