In celebration of the 82nd annual Acadamy Awards, airing Sunday, March 7, Global Grind wanted to recognize some of today’s rising movie stars of color, that starred in some of this year’s nominated films.

Gabourey Sidibe

Gabourey recieved major accolades, including a Oscar nomination, in her potrayal as a sexually-abused, obese, illerate teen in the film Precious.

Next: The actress is set to star in ‘Yelling to the Sky,’ the story of a three bi-racial sisters growing up in a violent New York neighborhood.

Anthony Mackie

Although Anthony Mackie has been in the movie industry for a long time, he had his breakout moment in this year’s 9-time Oscar nominated film ‘The Hurt Locker’, an American War thiller about the Iraq war.

Next: Mr. Mackie will co-star in the drama ‘The Adjustment Bureau’ with Matt Damon, due out sometime this year.

Zoe Saldana

In 2009, Zoe Saldana had an amazing year. She starred in two of the years biggest blockbusters, ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Avatar’, and became an international fashion icon while at it.

Next: The actress stars in the sexy graphic-novel adaptation ‘The Losers’, also starring Columbus Short and Idris Elba.  She also has the much anticipated ‘Star Trek’ sequel to look forward to.

Anika Noni Rose

Anika Noni Rose has made a big impact in a small amount of time. She made history as the voice behind Disney’s first African-American princess Tiana in the animated film ‘The Princess and the Frog’


Next: The singer/actress will star in the drama ‘Skyler’, set for a summer 2010 release.
