The Playstation 3 was released in November 2006, and while most companies have re-vamped their consoles, the PS3 has, for the most part, stayed the same.

The biggest change since the release of the PS3 has been its size. In August of 2009, Sony released a slimmed down version of the Playstation 3 that was not as flashy as the original but functioned the same way. Today, Sony has announced that it will be trimming the fat once again and releasing an even slimmer version of their ever popular Playstation 3 video game console.

The new Playstation 3 is now 4.63lbs, down from 7lbs, which means there is a 20 percent reduction in overall size and is 25 percent lighter. It now comes in an upgraded 500 and 250GB hard drive, up from 320 and 160GB. The 250GB model will retail for around $30 less than the 500GB, at $269 and $299 respectively. It has retained Blu-Ray capability and Internet connectivity, however the disk will now load from a manual opening in the top of the console instead of the slot-loading disc drive.

The PS3s will come in various bundles – the default 500GB version will ship with FIFA13, Assassin’s Creed 3 or Harry Potter: Book of Spells, alongside the Sony Wonderbook “paperipheral.” You can look out for the slimmer Playstation 3 to release just in time for the 2013 holiday season.
