The world was shocked when footage of a young woman being struck with an uppercut punch by RTA bus driver, Artis Hughes, 59, hit the web and now the victim, Shidea Lane is publicly speaking out for the first time.

The 25 year old sat down with Fox 8 Cleveland to speak on what went down. She says:

“The bus driver didn’t think I had any money to get on the bus and I was looking for it, trying to tell him that I have money to get on the bus. Can you just let me find it? And from there it just escalated …”

Shidea describes the blow, saying:

“It felt like I was on Mortal Kombat. It just hurted. It was almost like a ‘finish him!’ type of hit,”

She continues:

“It’s amazing to see how a man would hit a woman that hard. Are you serious? You could have pulled me off the bus. You can’t really touch anyone, but for real? You really punched me?”

Some witnesses claim that Lane antagonized the driver, hitting and spitting on him. She refused to comment on that, but did say:

“That’s why I want to talk to my lawyer.  I don’t really want to, I can’t answer that question.  It’s more than that,”

Lastly, Shidea tells the reporter:

“And if something like this escalates, I would just remove myself quickly.”

According to police reports, Artis claims he was only protecting himself, as he stated that the unruly passenger grabbed him by the throat and spit in his face. He also refuses to apologize.
