Obama added that officials are confident that all the resources they need are in place, and he emphasized that “it is important for us to respond big and to respond fast” any damage.

“We’re going to cut through red tape and we’re not going to get bogged down in a lot of rules,” said the commander-in-chief.

In wake of the storm, the President made a last minute decision this morning to cancel his campaign event in Florida and fly back to DC. White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a statement:

“Due to deteriorating weather in the Washington area, the President will no longer attend today’s campaign event in Orlando. The President will return to Washington to monitor the preparations for and response to Hurricane Sandy.”

However, Mitt Romney will keep his campaign agenda and pay visits to Ohio, Iowa and Wisconsin today, while Paul Ryan, his VP nominee will stay in Florida.

As the President warned, please take Hurricane Sandy very seriously and follow the instructions of your state and local officials to stay safe.
