You’re badly in need of a break from the daily grind, but the contents of your bank account won’t allow for that weeklong Bahamas vacay you’ve been longing for. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to escape reality on the cheap and close to home. Our lackluster economy has created a thriving trend – staycations.

Here are some ideas for simple but sexy staycations that will have you feeling refreshed in just a short amount of time.

Escape to a Ski Resort:

Take a day or weekend trip out of the city to a nearby ski resort. The drive will relax you and once you absorb those mountain views and inhale that fresh air, you’ll feel better already. Skiing can be on the pricey side, so to save a few bucks (and if you’re less than skilled, to save face) why not try snow tubing instead? It’s a way more fun way to play on the slopes. Just get on the tube, hold on tight and speed down the chute with ease. Find a resort that offers night tubing if you’re up for a real adventure!

Check into a Hotel:

I may live in Brooklyn, but I’ve been known to take a time out once in a while by booking a room for the night in Manhattan. Room service, maid service, breakfast in bed – all the luxuries of a real vacay squeezed into an indulgent 24 hours. Unwind over dinner then invite some friends back to the room. To save money, have them bring a bottle or two instead of raiding the mini bar. Check online for great deals and sign up for hotel rewards programs for the best rates. It’s surprising how one memorable night away can make such a big difference!

Be a Yogi:

Chill out for the weekend at a low-cost yoga retreat near your city. For the most relaxing experience, try out an intimate getaway held in a farmhouse or villa, rather than one of those mega-retreats that can be overwhelming. Rates may be as low as $125 a day, including yoga, food and accommodation, plus you can cut costs even more if you’re willing to share a room or bathroom. Get your mind and body right as you practice your downward facing dog and then lose yourself in a good book or take a peaceful stroll outside.  What a wonderful escape from city life!

Pamper Yourself:

Grab your closest friends and head to a local spa to spend the entire day spoiling yourselves. Get pampered with a deep tissue massage perhaps, then a revitalizing facial. There are tons of affordable deals out there, but some treatments can be costly so opt for the basics with no frills – they can be just as satisfying. Make sure to take full advantage of the complimentary sauna, steam room and, if offered, the variety of relaxing baths. One of my favorites, Eden Day spa in New York, provides a chill out area enclosed with small trees and plants around a soothing waterfall.  That’s where I like to kick my feet up and order some healthy food in between treatments.
