The fascinating tale of John McAfee, founder of the popular anti-virus company McAfee, has intrigued us to the point that we have to know everything about this dude!
Not only do Belizean police want him as a person of interest in a murder investigation, but he’s also a raving nut job … so to speak.
McAfee is into guns, drugs and money. Going by what we’ve learned about him, McAfee makes Hunter S. Thompson look like a choir boy.
Is it something about Internet guys that make them lawless? McAfee reminds us of Kim Dotcom, the billionaire mogul who was popped earlier this year for his copywriting website Megaupload.
Take a look at the bizarre world of former anti-virus creator, John McAfee.
Belize’s Gang Unit Chief Marco Vidal, told Wired Magazine that McAfee is a “prime suspect” in the shooting death of his neighbor, Gregory Faull.
Above is a photo of Gregory Faull, the man McAfee is accused of killing. Faull is also an American living on Ambergris Caye, an island off the coast of Belize.
Belizean police found Faull Sunday morning with a bullet in his head. Faull’s iPhone and laptop were missing and police say that there was no sign of forced entry.
In an interview with Wired Magazine – while he’s on the run by the way – McAfee admitted that he buried himself in the sand with a cardboard box over his head so he could breathe to escape police.
McAfee says that he’s innocent, knows nothing of the shooting and fears that whoever killed Gaull is likely gunning for him as well.
Earlier this year, police searched McAfee’s compound in Belize for firearms and narcotics. And they found some.
Police discovered $20,000 cash, chemistry equipment, and guns. McAfee and his security guards were released hours later and the charges were dropped.
McAfee has a 17-year-old Belizean girlfriend.
McAfee believes that the Belizean police poisoned his dogs.
The half-dozen dogs McAfee keeps at his beachside compound were killed two days before his neighbor was murdered.
Faull, like other McAfee neighbors, had been complaining about the dogs and reportedly filed a formal complaint about them with the mayor of the nearby town of San Pedro last week.
McAfee sold his stock in the McAfee anti-virus company in 1994 and brought in a fortune of $100 million.
However the financial crisis in 2009 plummeted his millions and he began auctioning off his property for cash to pay his bills.
McAfee is a real gangster; well at least he rolls with them in Belize. According to Gizmodo, he pals around with local gangsters in Belize. McAfee is also an avid drug user and has attempted to purify psychoactive drugs like bath salts, which he recommends taking rectally.
McAfee is a devoted thrill-seeker, known to have raced ATVs and travel across oceans by jet ski.
Friends say he invented “aerotrekking,” which is flying a small plane above vast stretches of desert.
