The White House has finally responded to a petition on their We The People platform asking that CNN host Piers Morgan be deported, and gun advocates aren’t going to be happy about it.

DETAILS: Attack Of The Brits? Petition Calls For Piers Morgan’s Deportation After Anti-Gun Comments

In a statement explaining the decision, White House spokesman Jay Carney said to keep the First Amendment in mind when discussing the Second.

“Americans may disagree on matters of public policy and express those disagreements vigorously,” wrote Carney, “but no one should be punished by the government simply because he or she expressed a view on the Second Amendment — or any other matter of public concern.”

According to the petition, Morgan was engaged “hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution.” They were referring to Morgan’s views on gun-control. The CNN host has been extremely vocal about gun-control reform and tweeted after the Newtown shootings:

Minutes after news of the shootings broke, the 47-year-old tweeted, “Why does any civilian in America need a weapon that can fire 100 rounds of ammunition at rapid speed?” He also insisted that the “only way forward for America is a national gun policy, same (much tougher) laws for everyone. No assault weapons for civilians, period.”

The petition garnered 109,000 signatures.

Morgan responded to the White House statement on CBS This Morning:

“This is very bad news for the Americans and very good news for the Brits,” Morgan joked on Thursday.

He even tweeted about the decision (see above), thanking President Obama for letting him stay in America.

Looks like gun advocates are going to have to find another way to deter Morgan. Alex Jones perhaps?
