Chris Christie, the brash, no-nonsense governor of New Jersey, is not shy about making light of a heavy situation: his much talked about weight.

But with news of him potentially running for president in 2016, people are starting to get worried about the politician’s weight and they’re scared he’s going to die if he doesn’t start to lose it.

“I’m worried he may have a heart attack. I’m worried he may have a stroke,” former White House physician Connie Mariano, M.D. said in an interview with CNN.

Mariano, who helped Bill Clinton lose 30 pounds during his “fat stage,” is worried that Christie may not make it to election, or doom may befall him if he is elected.

“It’s almost a like a time bomb waiting to happen unless he addresses those issues before running for office,” Mariano said.

But Christie knows the dangers of being overweight. On the David Letterman show earlier this week, the governor poked fun at himself by scarfing down a donut while Letterman interviewed him.

“I’m basically the healthiest fat guy you’ve ever seen in your life,” Christie joked.

“I have been remarkably healthy. My doctor continues to warn me my luck is going to run out relatively soon. So, believe me, it is something that I am very conscious of,” Christie said.

Mariano believes that if Christie was proactive about his weight lose, he could actually inspire an overweight nation to change their ways.

“He could actually save lives out there if he turned around and did something with his weight and became healthy,” Mariano said.

Hmmm…would we not elect Chris Christie because he was fat? Does that affect your decision?
