Dancing for a cause.

VIDEO: FLASH MOBBIN’! The “Harlem Shake” & Other Flash Mobs On A Plane

Students from South Glens Falls High School got busy to tunes like “Gangnam Style” and the “Harlem Shake” at a dance marathon south of New York’s Adirondack Mountains. The 710 students made an amazing $488,000, which they donated to forty receipts they deemed deserving.

Students paved the way for the recipients, including a woman battling cancer, mothers of ill children, and crash survivors, and granted them the opportunity to part take in the event and thank the crowd for their generosity.

Kate Lefoy, one of the forty recipients, was flabbergasted by the students’ good deed.

“When a community comes together to help life financial stress, which allows a child to get proper care and have the best chance in life, that’s priceless.” Lefoy has a 15-month-old daughter suffering from Turner Syndrome, a generic condition. “You know how they say it takes a village to raise a child? You’re part of our village now. We are forever grateful,” she said.

The dance marathon has been around for years. It all started in 1978 and has evolved into a movement. Kids would go door-to-door looking for any support or lending hand. This year’s $489,716 beat the collected $395,352 from last year’s dance marathon.

Carly Weller, a member responsible for organizing the dance and selecting recipients said, “You’re raised in the South Glens Falls community, you’re expected to dance in the marathon dance. And after you do it once, you’re hooked.”

Kids literally dance the night away. Supplied with water, food, and sleep breaks, the dancers shake, pop, and first pump their way to making a lucky person a few steps closer to financial stability.

If you are hoping to join the next dance marathon, senior Blake Snyder advises dancers to “Definitely sleep during break, drink lots of water, use deodorant-deodorant is key. And change your socks every time you can because if your feet are comfortable, you’re comfortable.”

It’s good to know that in a world full of sorrow, the children of our future are paving the way for happiness.
