Bleaching cream or photoshop gone bad?
India Arie recently came under some back lash after the release of her cover art for her latest single, “Cocoa Butter.” The photo showed and almost unrecognizable lighter skin toned India Arie, which led folks to believe that the singer has been lightening her skin.
But India Arie is shutting all the chatter down! Sources close to the afro-centric R&B singer who is known for promoting black beauty, told TMZ the “lightened” skin is:
merely the product of the camera flash and angle. India never asked to be lightened.
India then took to her Twitter to address the matter adding:
Some however, are still confused on why the singer approved the photo, especially as she has come out in the past to be very opinionated of Zoe Saldana darkening her skin for the role of Nina Simone. She has said:
“Yes there should be a movie made, and YES they should have chosen someone who LOOKS like Nina Simone, ESPECIALLY since her RACE played such a PIVOTAL role in WHO, WHAT and WHY, she was.”
Mmm… maybe under some strange circumstance India just didn’t notice the portrayal of her skin tone? Who knows… but her new single has certainly got some attention on in it now.
