A school bus driving students to Newport Elementary School in Illinois collided with a Jeep Wrangler earlier this morning leaving the driver of the Jeep, dead.
The bus “may have been late on the light” as it traveled through the intersection and struck a Jeep Wrangler, Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran said.
Officers are doing urine and blood tests on the bus driver to ensure that he was not impaired. Twenty-four of the students were transported by another school bus to Advocate Condell Medical Center and thirteen children with minor injuries were taken to other local hospitals.
At the time of the accident, one helicoptor and 18 emergency vehicles were on the scene.
More information about the event is still developing.
