It’s Earth month, y’all! Which means it’s time to give back to the Mother who made you, raised you and always made sure you were surrounded with all the things needed to keep you healthy and happy. No, we aren’t talking about your birth mom; we are talking about Mother Nature, naturally, duh.

Too often we shy away from doing things with consideration for the earth because, well, this unfortunately is the way we were taught or what we’ve become accustomed to, but it’s never too late to take the first step to making a change for the better.

In honor of Earth Day, we have rounded up some tips to help you make small changes on the road to a better you, and a better earth.

Remember, you aren’t changing your entire life; you’re just altering a few things and in turn doing your part in changing the world. Check out 8 tips to becoming a more sustainable, more stylish you below.

Opt for organic options from your favorite brands.

Have you ever run your hands across some organic cotton? We don’t know how to say this any other way than that sh*t is soft, so why would you want to settle for anything less? Organic cotton options really aren’t that hard to find. Read your tags when shopping and you’ll be surprised to know that some of your favorite brands like Gap, H&M and more have eco-friendly lines. Free People even launched an eco-friendly collection that was released today. You don’t have to sacrifice style to be sustainable.

Steam your clothing while showering.

We all know hot showers aren’t the best for your skin, and long showers aren’t the best for the environment, but if you are planning on partaking in the aforementioned, at least save a little on the electricity. Instead of ironing, hang your lightweight clothes on the outside of the shower curtain during your shower. It will loosen out the wrinkles and saves you from plugging in.

Use cruelty free beauty products.

This may sound harsh, but little bunnies are killed en masse painfully every single year from the testing of beauty products. Do your part by opting out of buying makeup beauty tested on our little furry friends. Look for the leaping bunny logo on the label of your product. Some of your favorite items may already be cruelty free.

Recycle your makeup containers.

Did you know that M.A.C. accepts returns of its primary packaging through the Back to M·A·C Program? By returning six empty containers to a M·A·C counter or M·A·C Cosmetics online, you’ll receive a free M·A·C lipstick of your choice. Now imagine how many free lipsticks you could have snagged if you saved all those empty Ruby Woo capsules! Ask your local beauty counters if they provide similar options.

There you have it, now you have no excuses as to why you can’t help Mother Earth be great while you remain your sassy sustainably stylish self.
