On Monday, legendary singer Lauryn Hill was supposed to start serving a prison sentence for tax evasion. (From 2005 to 2007, Lauryn Hill was ducking the IRS).

However, the sentencing was moved back to May 6 to give her some time to come up with her debt, which is $968,000.

These are troubling times for Ms. Hill. However, she does have a friend in the industry and this person might be surprising to some.

Earlier this week, Wyclef appeared on Invasion Radio with DJ Green Lantern and Boss Lady. Boss Lady asked Clef about Lauryn’s tax woes, and the rapper, who has a rocky relationship with his ex-Fugees co-star, surprisingly hadn’t heard of her dilemma, but he was supportive.

During the interview he said:

“I definitely wish her the best. That’s definitely a serious issue. And, once again, if she’s listening, at the end of the day, my door is always open. You know? I never closed my door toward her, in the sense of she ever needed anything I was never the one to block. Because at the end of the day this is one thing I learned about life: Yo, we could beef as much as we want but if something was to really happen to her I would feel bad.”

Wyclef also had kind words for Pras, the other Fugees member he was beefin’ with.

In the interview, Wyclef also talked about what happened with the failed Fugees comeback attempt a couple of years ago.

Check out the entire interview below; it’s pretty legit.
