Authorities in St. Rose, La., were searching the Mississippi River Friday for the brother of Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed after he jumped in to elude police that morning.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office said that Brian Reed, 29, had been questioned by deputies following a report of a black car running another off of River Road. A vehicle matching the description of the car was found parked beside the road and as police questioned the man inside, the car was reported as stolen over the radio, Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange said.

While being handcuffed, the man jumped in the river near the border between Kenner, La., and St. Charles Parish and did not resurface, LaGrange said. The Coast Guard and Port Authority are searching for the man.

Reed’s mother, Karen, said her son had problems with drugs and alcohol.

Ed Reed, whose eight interceptions in 10 games led the NFL this season, was preparing for Sunday’s AFC wild card game at the Kansas City Chiefs.
