News just broke that Don Cornelius, the host and producer of Soul Train, which for more than 20 years was one of the most famous and influential shows on television, has died.

The death apparently came from suicide.

From 1971 to 1993, Don was a regular on Saturday afternoons. Soul Train was famous for giving exposure to new acts before they became legendary. The list included Michael Jackson, James Brown and Run D.M.C.
