Not everyone appreciates the female figure the way we do!

Rex Reed, a New York Observer critic, made headlines in February when he negatively reviewed Melissa McCarthy in her hit film Identity Thief, focusing on her weight more than the movie itself.

Melissa, who is finally speaking up about being called “tractor-sized” and a “female hippo,” told the New York Times her first reaction:

“Really?” and that she also wondered, “Why would someone O.K. that?”

She went on to say that had she been 20-years-old, she would’ve been crushed. At her at her current age, however, she’s able to realize Rex’s negative comment has nothing to with her, and it’s more about his own self-hatred.

The amazing actress said she’s much more worried about “all those younger girls, that are not in a place in their life where they can say, ‘That doesn’t reflect on me.’”

Funny girl Melissa explained:

“I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate. I just thought, that’s someone who’s in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot.”

We think you’re beautiful at any size Mel. Screw the haters!
