Do you remember Jay Z ‘s “Renegade” featuring Eminem? It was the 12th track on Jay’s sixth album The Blueprint, where Jay and Eminem exchanged verses on the collaboration.

And even though Jay delivered an solid overall performance on his record, it’s been largely suggested that Em eclipsed Hov on the track. Jay himself even praised his collaborator on Blueprint III‘s “Star Is Born,” where he said:

“What Em did was silly/ The white boy blossomed after Dre endorsed him/ His flow on Renegade, fucking awesome/ Applaud him.”

And after Big Sean gave Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex the bonus track “Control” featuring Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica – off his forthcoming album, Hall Of Fame – it was Kendrick’s verse that really wowed fans with its level of intensity and straightforwardness. It was a nostalgic moment that brought you back to “Renegade,” and even a period in rap where addressing the competition wasn’t so subliminal:

“I’m usually homeboys with the same niggas I’m rhymin’ wit But this is hip hop and them niggas should know what time it is And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake Big Sean, Jay Electron’, Tyler, Mac Miller I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you niggas, Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas They don’t wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas”
