Imagine this: sitting in a coffee shop, you witness two patrons getting into a heated argument, before it rapidly escalates, ending in what’s believed to be a telekinetic episode. And no, Ashton Kutcher does not run out right after to tell you you’ve been Punk’d.

Well, that scenario was brought to life in a promotional prank for the upcoming movie Carrie, and it surely gave some innocent customers the shock of their lives.

The prank video titled “A Telekinetic Surprise in a Coffee Shop,” is the brainchild of MGM and ScreenGems, who were looking for a creative new way to draw viewers to the theaters.

The clip runs for a little over two minutes and begins with a crew installing special effect props, later showing the on-screen text declaring “Time to f-k with some customers” – and boy, did they ever!

A male walking through the cafe bumps into a table and “accidentally” spills coffee onto the laptop of a female customer. She is painstakingly annoyed, screaming “Oh, my God! You’ve ruined all of my stuff.” Right after, she gestures toward the man, and he is miraculously thrown up against the cafe wall repeatedly. Oh yeah, and later the lady screams and the cafe is turned upside down, with books falling from the shelves.

Creepy, right? The best part about this video are the reactions of the other customers, all of whom looked equally freaked out. Some scream, some hover back in shock, and some pull out their cell phones (gotta love technology).

The marketing stunt has proven to be a hit and is a great way to promote the remake of Carrie (played by Chloe Grace Moretz), which follows a young woman who discovers she also has telekinetic powers. Check out the video prank above, and be sure to check out Carrie when it hits theaters on Oct. 18th.
