A decade in and the League of Young Voters is still going strong.

Last week, over 150 young organizers, leaders and some of the nation’s most prominent political workers gathered at Bar 7 in Washington D.C. to toast to the League of Young Voters’ 10 years of service, community and leadership. The event was a huge success as hundreds turned out in the snow to enjoy an evening of talent, music, food and powerful speeches to commemorate the League’s decade of service to empower and inspire young people to make a difference in their country.

The room was occupied by two White House officials, League founder, Billy Wimsatt, the League’s Executive Director, Dr. Robert “Biko” Baker, esteemed leader of the Farm Workers movement, Delores Huerta and artists Komplex and Jasiri X. Additional attendees included leaders from prominent organizations such as Rock the Vote, Hip Hop Caucus, Sierra Club, New Organizing Institute, Generation Progress, SEIU, Color of Change and more.

Memorable moments of the night included when the League’s founder Billy Wimsatt shared what inspired the League’s inception and the importance of the voice of the young people. Another powerful moment was when Executive Director, Dr. Robert “Biko” Baker described all that the League had accomplished over ten years and mentioned those who had been touched by the work of the youth organizers.

All fundraised proceeds from the event will go toward the League’s efforts, programs and activations in 2014.
