Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain will never not matter. And Aberdeen, Washington, the singer’s hometown, will now celebrate the legendary rocker’s life in a special way.

Yesterday, Aberdeen’s mayor Bill Simpson and the city council decided that February 20th, Kurt’s birthday, will become “Kurt Cobain Day” annually.

The city’s proclamation said:

“Aberdeen residents may justifiably take pride in the role our community played in the life of Kurt Cobain and the international recognition our community has gained from its connections with Kurt Cobain and his artistic achievements.”

Simpson also mentioned that the day could turn into a week if it’s successful.

Hoquiam, the neighboring town, also has something special planned for Kurt Cobain; their date will be on April 10th. Before he made it big, Kurt briefly lived in Hoquiam.

Late last year, Aberdeen made news when the house Kurt grew up in went on sale.
