Actress Viola Davis, who plays the lead role in Shonda Rhimes‘ latest ABC thriller How To Get Away with Murder, took to Twitter to express how she feels towards the controversial NY Times article, in which she was described as an “older, less classically beautiful than Kerry Washington, or for that matter Halle Berry.” The Tony Award winner tweeted:
You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I’ll rise!!!

Maya Angelou always had the right words for predicaments like these.
Meanwhile, a new online petition has been created demanding the article be taken down. The petition attempts to explain to non-African Americans why labels like “angry black woman” are offensive.
