Name a 2014 club song, there’s a 99.9999 percent chance DJ Mustard made the beat.

Despite receiving criticism for taking the “Bay Area sound” or having beats that sound similar, DJ Mustard is getting better with his production, and you can thank veteran producer Pharrell Williams for the assist.

GlobalGrind caught up with DJ Mustard on the BET Hip-Hop Awards green carpet, and he revealed Pharrell helped him fine-tune his production skills. The 10 Summers producer wouldn’t specifically tell us what advice Pharrell gave him, citing he didn’t want anyone else to “steal” his new sound.

We’ve already heard the diversification of DJ Mustard’s production with teenage singer Justine Skye’s “Collide” and Fergie’s new comeback single “L.A. Love (La La).”

Unfortunately, Mustard and Pharrell haven’t co-produced any new songs together, but that’s not completely out of the picture.

Mustard is currently gearing up to hit the road with Skrillex and A$AP Ferg this fall. Watch Mustard’s green carpet interview above. The Hip-Hop Awards air on October 14.
