It’s about damn time.
After being months overdue, XXL finally unveiled their beloved Freshman Class issue. The famed hip-hop magazine maintains that picking this year’s class was just as tough as previous years, but somehow they came to a conclusion that’s a pretty accurate picture of today’s hip-hop climate.
Fetty Wap, Tink, Shy Glizzy, K Camp, Raury, Goldlink, OG Maco, Vince Staples, and DeJ Loaf were all hand selected by the magazine’s staff, and the 10th spot was reserved for the fan-voted freshman Kidd Kidd.
Last year’s cover featured four Chicago rappers, including Vic Mensa (who’s had a great year), Chance The Rapper, Lil Durk, and Lil Bibby, as well as Kevin Gates, Isaiah Rashad, Jarren Benton, Troy Ave, Jon Connor, and two singers: August Alsina and Ty Dolla $ign.
Congratulations to all the artists who made this year’s freshman cover. Stay locked for their forthcoming freestyles.
