“Too street?” We’re giving major side-eye right about now.
Earlier this week, 007 author Anthony Horowitz shared his belief that Idris Elba is “too street” to play James Bond, and the internet let him have it. But as fans flocked to the actor’s defense, Idris himself offered his own response on Instagram with the following caption. And it was nothing short of perfect:
“Always keep smiling!! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the street!!”

Idris, 42, has already stated that he has no plans of becoming James Bond. Regardless, we can’t help but think he’s the best man for the job. Smooth, stylish, handsome – he’s got it all. Remember when he became the first man to cover Maxim? It doesn’t get more suave than that.
So, as Anthony Horowitz apologizes for his “poor choice of words,” we’ve gathered definitive proof that Idris Elba would be the perfect James Bond. It’s OK to hope, right?
