This is disheartening.

Philadelphia rapper Freeway has been diagnosed with kidney failure and is undergoing emergency dialysis. The 37-year-old burst onto the music scene back in the early 2000s as an artist on Jay Z and Dame Dash’s legendary, but now defunct, Roc-A-Fella Records.

Most famous for his breakout hit “What We Do” featuring Jay Z and Beanie Sigel, and “Flipside,” Freeway (real name Leslie Edward Pridgen) has been preparing a big comeback. Unfortunately, his plans have come to a halt after a routine checkup turned into devastating news. During his doctor’s visit, Freeway discovered his kidneys are failing.

Manager Amir Abbassy tweeted out words of encouragement:

To make matters worse, Freeway is scheduled to headline his Free Fest showcase in Philly tomorrow. Despite the diagnosis, Freeway is still planning to hit the stage at Electric Factory.

We’re keeping him in our thoughts and prayers.
