Melo loves the kids…right?

While the Knicks were in New Orleans to face-off against the Pelicans, a young fan ran out onto the court to hug Carmelo Anthony.

Though Melo was initially startled, he then smiled and patted him on the head before an official ushered the boy off the court.

Melo was asked about the incident after the game, telling the Associated Press, “I was shocked. I didn’t really know who was it until I actually looked over and saw that it was a kid. …  I think it was because he was a little kid, they just let him go. Definitely a security issue, though, for sure.”

Perhaps the young boy is also a Syracuse Orange fan, and wanted to celebrate Melo’s alma mater making it into the NCAA’s March Madness Final Four.

Either way, Melo probably needs a hug after the Knicks were officially eliminated from the chase for an Eastern Conference playoff spot over the weekend.
