No one is safe from the wrath of social media, especially when it comes to racial insensitivity.

The Wire creator David Simon learned the hard way after he weighed in on the upcoming Donald Trump town hall that will be hosted by Sean Hannity on Wednesday, during which the Republican presidential nominee will address issues facing African-Americans.

The journalist and producer tweeted about the irony of conservative Sean Hannity being picked to moderate Trump’s upcoming town hall to discuss core issues facing Black people:

He then proceeded to explain why the use of the N-word with an “a” at the end is “acceptable” to say as a White person:

But of course, Twitter was not here for his “inappropriate racial vernacular” or explanation:

Despite the backlash, Simon still continued to tweet throughout the day, and unlike most celebrity ranters, he didn’t delete his tweets.
