The New York Jets don’t need Darrelle Revis to win a Super Bowl. It’s possible for them to win it without him, but would you put your money on the Jets winning a Super Bowl without him?

The Jets can play hardball with Revis all they want, but their lack of appreciation for the best cornerback in the game may comeback to haunt them. Newly acquired Antoino Cromartie and Kyle Wilson could form a very impressive cornerback duo if Revis were to not play this season. Cromartie was that deal in 2008 with his ten interception season and Pro Bowl nod. Wilson was a first round draft pick in this past years draft and has a lot of upside to him. They could win with these two corners, but why put it to chance?

The bottom line is that Revis has outplayed his contract plain and simple, therefore he should be rewarded with an extension. Jamarcus Russell was drafted the same year as Revis and grossly underperformed his contract and was cut. If Revis played like Russell the Jets wouldn’t hesitate to cut him. Revis wants to be the highest paid cornerback in the league and that honor currently belongs to the Raiders’ Nnamdi Asomugha. The Jets front office should ask themselves who’d they rather have at corner Revis of Asomugha. If Revis, pony up the cash. If Asomugha, then play hardball with Revis.

Cornerback and Quarterback, depending upon your dialect, the two can sound very similar. Both positions are completely different, but both are the most important positions on their side of the ball. The two positions are like a good woman, very hard to find and when you find one, you better realize it and hold on to ‘em. The Jets have a pretty good corner in Revis and are risking losing him and their Super Bowl chances for the year because they don’t realize what they have in Revis or really don’t care.

That’s all I got,
