Peace Hip-Hop and R&B Everybody,

First off this week, new heat from one of dopest MC’s in the game, Killer Mike featuring T.I. and Big Boi with “Ready Set, Go.” This is 100% flame coming through your speakers when you put this on. The baseline on this marries this constant East Asian chant NO I.D. pulled from some obscure sample that is just crazy. If your anywhere near Atlanta, this will be a roll call for Bankhead and The S.W.A.T.S., so be prepared when this rings out in the club. “Ready Set, Go” should have come with a neck brace.

You have Killer, Big Boi and T.I. all together on this NO I.D. produced anthem. This record was obviously done before T.I. had to go ‘sit down’ again so we only get Tip on the hook. He created a hook though that is a salute to that ATL side of town that has brought you so many legends. Later this year, Killer Mike will drop The PL3DGE (that’s Pledge 3 for you non descriptoids) and it will be classic. Trust me when I tell you.

Next up is new artist David Dallas and Freddie Gibbs with the joint “Caught In Daze.” This guy David Dallas came to the Big Apple all the way from Auckland, New Zealand with a plan to get on and he has had success thus far. He recently signed a deal with the legendary underground hip hop label DuckDown and what has ensued is an onslaught of dope music. The production outfit Fire and Ice provide this dreamy laid back butta smooth beat.

It’s accented with incredible bass thumps that would have made the legendary Ernie Isley proud. Dallas is a very talented MC and the bars he spits on this won’t disappoint. Freddie Gibbs is sandwiched between 2 David Dallas 16’s and gives you his usual midwest OG revolutionary hood flow that has brought him fame. “Caught In a Daze” is just the latest record from Dallas. YouTube his record “Big Time” if you’re a neutron to his music and peep some dope shit.

Juicy J has got to be one of my favorite artists. I’ve been down with him, Project Pat and the whole 3-6 Mafia movement since the late 90’s. Whether on TV or CD, these dudes produce nothing but pure ignorance at its finest. Juicy’s new record “Who Da Neighbors” is guaranteed to follow in that same mold.

The pure magic that has fueled Juicy and his team to success, has been a combination of humor and lyrics over hard hittin truck rattlin’ beats. This song is no different and is right on par with classic 3-6 records like ‘Chickehead’ and ‘Hood Rat Chick’. Lex Lugar’s production is the true star of this show but Juicy’s lyrics are what will no undoubtedly be what this track is remembered for. “Kobe Bryant from The Lakers…now that’s paper!”

I had to make mention right quick of this B.O.B track that surfaced this week, “No Future.” It’s a diss track to a particular group and their record that’s been floating around online for a month (you have to google to catch up on the issue at hand). What makes “No Future” interesting and must hear music is that it’s a battle rap that is an ode to 80’s hip-hop. MC’s used to beef with another and it would ultimately depend on who had the dopest rhymes as to who won the battle.

If you were at SXSW last week then you know this semi sorta-beef involving B.O.B. and a certain group got a little microwave action during a few showcases. The combatants, in this case, weren’t as respected with their diss because some of the lyrics were considered Anti-Semitic and offensive. B.O.B’s retaliation though is right on par with a true MC. In 32 bars he murders, presides over the funeral and burial, pisses on the grave and leaves no headstone. Don’t be alarmed though. This isn’t any ‘real’ hip-hop beef. This is just a beef patty with mince meat.

Lastly Queen’s own Action Bronson teamed up with Statik Selektah on this new neck jerker “Cliff Notes.” Bronson has been on his grind for a minute, steady bubbling in the underground NYC hip-hop scene. This portly MC’s wordplay is on par with the likes of Kool G Rap in terms of diction and delivery. It’s that Queens that shit you gonna love. “Queens bred no packer but still a Cheesehead” His punch lines are deadlier then a Rafael Nadal backhand volley.

He recently dropped an album Barry Horowitz that will ride hard on I-95 from Beantown to DC. Statik Selektah’s beat on Cliff Notes is some of his hottest work yet. His cuts and scratches on this are Precise and On Point, like my 2 DJ’s homies outta the Q-Boro that are known by these same names. Check out his interesting YouTube cooking vids as well. You might learn how hook up a mean Seared Ahi Tuna steak. Until we read again…..
