Lady Gaga has really outdone herself this time. The always avant-garde, scandalous, and provocative pop star has just released the music video for “Born This Way,” the first single off her upcoming record of the same name and it’s just as bizarre and entertaining as Mother Monster promised.

The clip opens with a monologue by Gaga, a rumination on the forces of good and evil and a literal explanation of the ‘birthing’ portion of the song’s lyrics. Gaga floats in outer space with a constellation of the uterus, gets her ovaries pulled out of her, gives birth to a gun and rules over the tortured souls in purgatory—all before the actual song even begins.

Then Gaga joins her dancers dressed in a bra and panties to pull out a few dance moves before donning skeleton makeup and a tuxedo. Toward the end of the over seven-minute-long video directed by Nick Knight, Gaga and Laurieann Gibson, Gaga gives a definitive nod to Madonna, complete with spaced front teeth.
