Allow me to introduce myself…

My name is Meelah. I was the lead singer of a group that some of you may be familiar with and/or remember me from called 702. We were signed to Motown Records & released three albums. You may be saying to yourself ‘what ever happened to them’. If you were truly an avid listener of ours you may even have questioned ‘where my girls at!’ I feel so blessed to have been a part of such a great experience!! However, the unfortunate and sad truth about groups never staying together, got the best of us and we eventually disbanded. Many of you may be wondering what happened, but that’s another story for another day!  I’ve since then moved forward and have embarked on several different adventures. Life has taken me on many different paths in many different directions, yet the journey has just begun!

I was born & raised in Las Vegas. I’ve always known I wanted to be a singer. From age 7 my mother entered  me in all types of talent searches. And she made sure my voice was heard whether I was singing the national anthem in a sports event, serenading the bride & groom at they’re wedding, or the entertainment at fashion shows. You name it I was there, LOL! Shout out to my moms!! 🙂 But it all started in the church choir of course and through the years God has given me many opportunities.  Although it’s been years since 702’s demise, I’ve continued to do music even when the spotlight wasn’t on me.

After the breakup I thought to myself ‘I’m free, I can finally be an individual again’! Don’t get me wrong, I had a blast whileI was a part of the group, but often times the drama, stress, and pressures of being a celebrity at such a young age took its toll. I didn’t like that it had come to this, yet I definitely was enjoying my mental and emotional freedom &peace of mind. I was a young, free spirit trying to find a way, the way, MY way to happiness. I emphasize ‘my’ waybecause I felt ‘okay no label, no mngrs, nobody else I’m forced to be joined at the hip with. It was just me.This begged the question ‘what do I wanna do now’ and of course it always came back to my passion for music.

To keep my creative juices flowing I began writing & was hired as an in house songwriter for a production company.I did this for a little while and realized I wasn’t fulfilled so I continued on my soul search and landed in the studio with Missy Elliott where I recorded the song ‘Take Away’ on her Miss E…So Addictive album.

I continued to collaborate with different artists. I was featured on bg vocals, wrote and even toured with some of these artists as a bg singer. One artist I toured with was Macy Gray. Random, maybe, but definitely a time in my life I will never forget! I had so much fun on the road with her. We went ALL AROUND THE WORLD! Places like Israel (Jerusalem), Finland, Russia, Hungary, Switzerland, Norway,Poland, and the list goes on. Some frowned on the idea of me singing background. ‘What the hell you doing singing background’, they’d ask. But as we all know opinions are like [explicit] ‘ everybody has one!

Fast forward a few years and I’ve taken some time off to have a child with the love of my life. My son isa year now and I’m getting back to work! I’m so excited!!!  One of the first things that I’ve done since I’ve been back is pay tribute to the legendary SWV for Coko’s bday at BB King’s in NY. I got to sing one of their classic hits…’Rain’! It’s on youtube if u wanna check it out! 🙂 You can also check out some interview
