But! Instead of just pulling out some of Seuss’ most famous sayings, GlobalGrind started thinking about Seuss’ wordplay and realized that he has some pretty hip-hop worthy rhyme skills going on in a lot of his books. ‘Oh The Places You’ll Go!’ and ‘The Cat in the Hat’ have some memorable quotes and crazy mixed up words that reminded us of some similar MC rhymes from the past and present.

Artists like Run D.M.C., LL Cool J and even Chris Brown have shown off their own Dr. Seuss-worthy skills. Take a look on the next pages as we reveal t Dr. Seuss’ possible influence on our favorite rappers!

First up:

‘Big Z, little Z, what begins with Z? I do. I’m a zizzer zazzer zuzz, as you can plainly see.’ — Dr. Seuss. Maybe this alphabet wordplay inspired Jay-Z?

‘I said a hip hop a hippie to the hippie/to the hip hip hop, you dont stop/a rockin to the bang bang boogy say upchuck the boogy/to the rhythm of the boogity beat.’

—Sugar Hill Gang’s ‘Rapper’s Delight.’ These veteran rappers have some similar weird worded rhyme skills. ‘Zizzers’ and ‘Boogitys’ are on the same level.

‘Look at me!/Look at me!/Look at me NOW!/It is fun to have fun/But you have to know how.’ — Dr. Seuss (‘The Cat in the Hat’ (Deluxe Edition))

‘Look at me now, look at me now/Oh, I’m getting paper/Look at me now/Oh, look at me now/Yeah, fresher than a muthaf-cker’

—Chris Brown ‘Look At Me Now.’ Both Seuss and Chris demand some attention and they’re both getting a little wild and letting loose.

‘All alone! Whether you like it or not, alone is something you’ll be quite a lot!’ — Dr. Seuss (‘Oh, the Places You’ll Go!’ and ‘The Lorax’)

‘When I’m alone in my room sometimes I stare at the wall/and in the back of my mind I hear my conscience call/Telling me I need a girl who’s as sweet as a dove/for the first time in my life, I see I need love.’

—LL Cool J. Both LL and Dr. Seuss muse on what it means to be alone. Seuss says it’s a part of life, but LL is fed up and needs to find himself a companion.
