The tandem of Drake and Trey Songz is one of the most underappreciated in music. With Drake playing the role of rapper-who-wants-to-sing and Trey playing the role of singer-who-wants-to-rap, the two have a chemistry that is palpable. But unforunately, this brand new collaboration doesn’t quite live up to the quality of previous efforts.
‘Unusual’ is something like a rap song covered up in a loose mask of R&B. The beat is big, but Trey’s voice sounds strained and Drake doesn’t sound like anything beyond business as usual. The two of them are good friends, as everyone knows, but this record sounds like they barely know each other.
Oh well, we’re sure there’s more good music to come from these guys soon. Trey Songz’s, Passion, Pain, Pleasure in stores September 14.
