I am so happy to see Friday! As I mentioned before, this is the time of year when things get busy not only on a work front, but also with events, receptions, showcases, etc.

This was the kind of week that makes me feel like I need not so much an assistant as a social secretary (whew). I’ve had something to do/someplace to be/someone to see pretty much every day this week (my poor gym schedule is suffering), and it looks like this pace is going to keep up for a while.

One of my first stops this week was Roc4Life’s one year anniversary celebration. You all probably are already familiar, but Roc4Life is basically the online portal for Roc-A-Wear, RocNation, and pretty much all things Roc (throw your diamonds up).

Hopefully Uncle Russ won’t get on me for shouting out another site, but I think we’re all family, so I’m sure it’s fine (right Uncle Russ? Right). Now, I used to work for an urban website back in the day, and I guess technically yes I’m a blogger, but I don’t really live in the blogosphere. It truly is a different subculture.

I was surprised at the diversity of the mix of people I saw at the party. It ranged from the uber-fab celebrity publicist BJ Coleman, to Ciroc brand ambassador and overall party-starter Nick Storm (there was a Ciroc open bar, did I mention that? That was great), to comedian Lil Duval (who really is mad small! No shots…just sayin’).

Then of course there were various industry execs, some of the Roc Nation freshman class, and lots of models rocking the new Roc Nation Skull Candy headphones (which I’m hoping someone will send to me since I just gave this plug…hint hint). And then there were the bloggers, and you could kinda of peep which were the fashion bloggers, the sneaker bloggers, the music bloggers, etc. I was mildly fascinated. I think I need to hang out with them more often.

Yesterday I had to try to find time to catch up with my dear friend who’s in the city for a theater trip (and I was so bummed I couldn’t catch the shows with her. I’m dying to see Fences), so I had the bright idea of meeting her for dinner before I hit a showcase at Santos Party House last night. I made a 6:15 reservation, which required me leaving my office at 6pm on the dot.

I can probably count the number of times I’ve successfully left my office at 6pm on my fingers. It also didn’t help that this has been one of those back-to-back meetings weeks. But somehow I made my way outside around 6:05. Yay! Except…oh, Obama’s in midtown? Yeah, I forgot about that. Streets closed, traffic jacked.

Out of necessity, I took my first pedi-cab ride ever. I have to say, it’s cute for like a block, or maybe around central park, but not for actually trying to really go someplace in midtown traffic. And then I kept thinking “What if someone I know sees me in this thing??” Ultimately I just had the guy peddle me far enough to catch a real cab, and I actually beat my friend and her girls to dinner because they, too, ended up in a pedi-cab!

Anyway, after dinner I ran down to Santos for a showcase for the new ByStorm/Jive artist Miguel. Now, a little background is necessary here. ByStorm is headed my Mark Pitts and Wayne Barrow. I’m guessing (hoping) you’ve at least heard those names before; but if you haven’t, their short bio is that they managed Biggie (yes, that Biggie), and were responsible for bringing the movie Notorious to the big screen
