Last night the Diamond Empowerment Fund (D.E.F.) & the Simmons family took over Dallas with their celebrity friends to raise funds for D.E.F., a nonprofit international organization with the mission to raise money to support education initiatives that develop and empower economically disadvantage people in African nations where diamonds are a natural resource.

D.E.F. honored former President Bush’s daughters Barbara and Jenna, NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo and Maril Auger. The night was a huge success raising around 500k for kids. Russell Simmons took to his twitter to call Jenna and Barbara Bush ‘true inspirations.’ He also live tweeted the entire event which you can read via his CelebrityTweet.com page here.

Everyone at the event had a great time, the place was filled with smiles, kisses and good vibes. It was also a festive night for Rev. Run as he was also celebrating his birthday! The original ‘King of Rock’ even grabbed the mic and treated the crowd to a bunch of his classic songs.

‘Dallas Rocks was a great night for everyone in the room and a great night
for Africa. From our incredible honorees, to the performance by Smokey
Robinson, to Rev Run’s birthday celebration at the after party, it was one
incredible moment after the next. The movement for empowerment through
education for Africa keeps growing and Dallas was a big step forward for the
cause.’ -Ellen Haddigan, Executive Director of D.E.F.
