Soulful flame haired singer Florence Welch set the stage on fire at last Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, during one of the best live performances of the night. The British alt-rocker writhed around the stage donned in a flowy goddess dress, accompanied by bare feet and hyperactive dancers.

Performing under the moniker Florence & the Machine, Welch has gained recognition for the powerful folk rock jam “Dog Days Are Over” from debut album “Lungs.”

The track won the artist her first VMA for Best Art Direction and was recently featured in the trailer for Julia Roberts’ new flick “Eat Pray Love.”

The song’s unique sound has proved itself a welcome addition to the hip-hop and pop dominated airwaves. Florence’s strong voice and ethereal look has already won over fans in the UK and is now commanding attention in the U.S.

She also contributed a song to the uber-popular vampire franchise The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Soundtrack; the video for “Heavy In Your Arms” was released yesterday and has a creepy, yet beautiful, horror flick vibe. Check it out here.

Florence lends an artistic flair and vocal prowess to everything she does, including her live shows. You can catch Florence & the Machine on tour at the end of October.

Check the band’s website for dates. There’s sure to be more to come from this exciting new singer, so stay tuned.
