What Happened: A New York lottery official says a winning ticket for the Mega Millions lottery jackpot worth $319 million has been sold at a variety store in Albany, N.Y. The winning numbers in Friday’s drawing were: 22, 24, 31, 52, and 54, and 4 as the Mega ball.

What: The bloody crackdown on protesters in Syria has left dozens dead as President Bashar al-Assad faces the greatest challenge to his 11-year rule. Security forces opened fire on anti-government protesters in the city of Sanamin near Daraa on Friday, killing at least 20 people, according to one witness.

Who: Derrick Rose

What: Derrick Rose is taking the lead in one of the league’s charitable efforts: for Friday night’s match-up with the Memphis Grizzlies, the superstar will donate $1,000 for every point he scores to Direct Relief International, a group that helps provide medical care for those affected by the disaster in Japan. Rose finished with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists for Chicago.

What Happened: John Gallagher, 19, was arrested for breaking into his old high school in Missouri, stealing boys’ underwear from their lockers, and masturbating on them. He was charged with burglary and unlawfully entering a high school.

Inside the Capitol

Where: Wisconsin

Who: Scott Walker

What: Wisconsin officials couldn’t agree Friday about whether an explosive law taking away nearly all public worker collective bargaining rights was about to take effect after a nonpartisan legislative bureau published it despite a court order blocking implementation.

The head of the Legislative Reference Bureau that made the move, as well as a nonpartisan attorney for the Legislature, said the action was merely procedural. But Republican legislative leaders, who encouraged the bureau’s action, insisted it meant law would take effect Saturday.

Weight: 14.2 Billion

How They Hustled: The company reported worldwide profits of $14.2 billion, and said $5.1 billion of the total came from its operations in the United States.

Its American tax bill? None. In fact, G.E. claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion.
