Before she is to attend the 2011 GLAAD Media Awards in New York, Michigan native and 2010 Miss USA winner Rima Fakih is speaking out in support of gay marriage.

Fakih spoke to GlobalGrind exclusively by phone this afternoon and said, “Everyone should be allowed to marry whomever they love. I believe that it is time for people to accept and no longer stand against gay marriage.”

This comes after ABC released a poll this morning stating that for the first time in U.S. history a majority of Americans support gay marriage. The poll found 53 percent of Americans supporting legalizing gay couples to wed, which is up 20 points since 2004.

The 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, held tomorrow simultaneously in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, will recognize and honor news and entertainment media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and the issues that affect their lives.

This year, GLAAD will present the Excellence in Media Award to famed hip-hop impresario and Chairman of GlobalGrind.com, Russell Simmons and the Vito Russo Award to Ricky Martin. Bravo’s Senior Vice President of Original Programming, Andy Cohen, will host the event. Guests include Tina Fey (30 Rock); Denis O’Hare; Kevin Alejandro (True Blood); Patrick Wilson (Morning Glory); Jane Velez-Mitchell (CNN); Wilson Cruz (He’s Just Not That Into You); Josh Kilmer-Purcell, Brent Ridge (The Fabulous Beekman Boys); Zac Young; Gail Simmons (Top Chef: Just Desserts); Ted Allen, Alexandra Guarnaschelli (Chopped); Sandra Lee (Semi-Homemade Cooking); Liz Lee (My Life as Liz); Mike Ruiz (RuPaul’s Drag Race); Laverne Cox (TRANSform Me); and GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. DJ Tracy Young will be the guest DJ at the after-party.
