As Shephard Fairey’s May Day art opening got crazier and crazier, b-boys rapping outside, the black motorcycle gang revving their engines in unison, celebrities pushing their way through the 5000 people standing outside, someone turned to me and was like ‘Yo! Banksy is walking among us.  I think he’s here…I think I know who he is.’  We stared at one guy who was holding a video camera for ten minutes, staring at his hands (cause those are the only thing you see in the movie about him), his mannerisms, his reactions…Was that him?  Have we finally spotted the ever so secretive Banksy????

For those who don’t know, Banksy is one of the illest street artists in the world, but his identity has always been unknown.  Police have been chasin’ dude for years…art collectors have tried to take out the concrete on the sidewalk where his work appears and sell it for hundreds of thousands of dollars…and graffiti writers have idolized his style.  This British born artist still remains a mystery.

BUT…his work has shown up on the streets of New York City.  There have been four sitings of his work since May 1 (Shephard’s art opening).  So, maybe, just maybe that girl who told me she thinks Banksy was among us that night, was right.

Check out the pieces that have appeared on the streets of New York in the recent days.

The first piece, ‘I Heart NY’ was found on Cedar Street between Greenwich and Trinity.

Props to highsnobiety for the flicks!

Look forward to finding the next piece!  Or maybe Banksy will dissapear in the night and hit the next city.  Be on the look out!

And in related news, two Banksy prints were stolen from a gallery in England.
