Little Dragon is one of the hottest indie bands of our time! Since the release of their self-titled, debut album in 2007, Swedish-natives Little Dragon have been catching the attention of listeners worldwide and gaining recognition and co-signs from some of the top publications and musicians around today.

Little Dragon formed while still in high-school in their hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden. Initially, the band’s name was Ava and it just included then 14-year-old Swedish-Japanese Yukimi Nagano and 16-year-olds Erik Bodin, drummer, and Frederik Wallin, bassist. Upon graduating the group was determined to make it in life as musicians and spent time working odd jobs just to make their dreams come true. A few years later the trio acquired the musical talents of keyboardist Hakan Wirenstrand and became the quartet we know as Little Dragon. The band name is actually a nickname for lead singer Yukimi as she would easily lose her temper in the studio out of creative frustrations.

Erik, Frederik Wallin and keyboardist Hakan Wirenstrand provide a superb, luring instrumentation as lead singer Yukimi holds the listener captive with her seductive vibrato. When listening to any Little Dragon album one can expect a collection of genre-bending tunes.  While  Little Dragon draws a bit more inspiration from classic soul (think Shuggie Otis) and American R&B, their latest album, Machine Dreams (2009), is a bit more new wave/80s pop (think Prince) and electronica bringing a fresh, eclectic array to music.

Here in America, Little Dragon has kind of been a rapid success. The band has completed three American tours since the release of their debut, covering 30 major cities in the U.S.! As if that isn’t impressive enough, the band has gone on to tour throughout Canada, South America, Europe and Asia.
