Yep, you read correctly. Magic Mike will be seeing Broadway lights!

The 2012 hit movie about male strippers will be made into a Broadway musical. The producers of the film have Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey to write the songs and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to write the book.

Kitt and Yorkey are the creators of the Tony and Pulitzer-winning Next To Normal, and the upcoming If/Then, starring Idina Menzel. 

The film was inspired by Channing’s early days as a male stripper.

Channing Tatum, who played the starring role in the film, confirmed the news via Twitter.

 

 

Magic Mike, which costarred Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello, has pulled in $160 million worldwide … and a big-screen sequel in is the works.

Ladies, get ready for the show.

Here’s a look at some other movies that were made into Broadway shows!

The 1990 John Waters film was a hit and made it to Broadway in 2008. James Snyder played Wade “Cry-Baby” Walker and Elizabeth Stanley played Allison Vernon Williams. The musical lasted from March 2008 to June 2008 on Broadway.

Legally Blonde moved to Broadway in 2007 and grossed over $1 million dollars a week. Laura Bell Bundy played Elle Woods and Christian Borle played Emmett Forrest. The musical was on Broadway from July 2008 to October 2008.

The Color Purple: The best-selling novel turned movie made its Broadway debut in 2005. Le Chanz played Celie and Saycon Sengbloh played Nettie. Fantasia Barrino also made her debut on Broadway playing Celie from April 2007 to January 2008. The musical lasted on Broadway from December 2005 to January 2008.

After many sequels, Spiderman made it to the Broadway theater in 2011. Reeve Carney plays Peter Parker and Rebecca Faulkenberry plays Mary Jane Watson. You can still catch it on Broadway now. 

The Lion King is Broadway’s sixth longest running show in history. Alton Fitzgerald White played Mufasa and Buyi Zama played Rafiki. The Lion King premiered in 1999 and is still running!

The 1990 smash hit earned Ghost earned Whoopi Goldberg an Oscar. Richard Fleeshmen played Sam Wheat and Caissie Levy played Molly Jensen. The show lasted on Broadway from March to August 2012.

Dirty Dancing won over our hearts in 1987 with an amazing performance from Patrick Swayze. Colin Charles played Tito Suarez and James Coombes as Dr. Jake Houseman. Dirty Dancing was on Broadway in 2008 and lasted for four months. Performances have returned to Broadway at the Piccadilly Theater.

Leonardo DiCaprio played the famous con artist Frank Abagnale Jr in the 2002 film Catch Me If You Can. The high flying musical made its debut in April 2011. Aaron Tevit played Frank Abagnale Jr and Tom Wopat played Frank Abagnale Sr. It lasted on Broadway till September 2011.
